Let's Talk Big Money

The path to acquiring corporate clients looks different for many. For some, it may take them several months to land that first contract, and for others, it may take them a few weeks — as was the case for Shawna Murray-Browne.

Shawna had her largest revenue month ever in her business, in less than 60 days of joining The #BigMoney Movement Accelerator.

Shawna is the principal of Kindred Wellness, a community healing consultancy in Baltimore.

As a clinical social worker, integrative psychotherapist, and strategist, Shawna helps philanthropic organizations and human services institutions go beyond race equity and ground in healing.

She does this with her healing curricula, as a keynote speaker, and through training and executive coaching. This is her story of learning how to be a changemaker in a philanthropic field and making money in the process.

Figuring Out How to Work The Least, Make The Most & Make The Biggest Impact

Shawna was unsure about the world of corporate but wanted to find a sustainable way to make money and still serve people.

She was doing everything on her own and felt like she lacked a community of like-minded people who really spoke her language. Working in the human services field, with nonprofits and government agencies, the general understanding of the field, according to Shawna, is that you’re not in it for the money.

“But listen, I am also here to get paid, and I couldn’t find the folks that were here with me – like, we need to be able to change the world, and I am here for anti-racism, but…can I get my coin though?” she said with a laugh.

Shawna was making multiple six figures, but as a mom of a young child in the midst of a doctorate program, she was burning out and losing sleep in the process.

“I needed to figure out how to work the least, make the most, and make the biggest impact.”

Going All In = Making 6-Figures In a WEEK (Yes, This Is A True Story)

Shawna realized that she needed a coach and community to help get her to the next level with a little more ease, and when she found out about the #BigMoneyMovement community, she decided to go all-in.

She says their shared background was a key factor.

“You are Black, and I was like OKKKKK sis, I need people like that in my space,” Shawna said while speaking to Liz. “After making sure that you are for real and that you had receipts, I was all in.”

She realized that she had found her community and set an intention to triple her income.

Shawna joined the #BigMoneyMovement in September 2021, dug deep into the coursework and the community, and shortly after, started closing 6-figures in a week.

It was something she had never experienced before, which is not unusual.

Outside of this space (the #BigMoneyMovement), Shawna’s story is not typical — only 12% of women-owned businesses earn six figures — but this is what we do in the #BigMoneyMovement. We don’t shrink.

A Radical Shift In Self Confidence

Shawna’s confidence grew as she learned more about how to position herself.

Typically, in the human services field as a social worker or psychotherapist, it is typical to charge $125/hour for one-on-one calls. But, a shift in mindset and understanding of how to position herself allowed Shawna to go after those 5 and 6-figure corporate client deals.

“Literally having something that I could execute, and execute strategically, and get that live, personalized feedback (changed everything),” she said.

And even still, after landing, say, a $45,000 contract, Shawna felt like she was still stressed and like she needed to do more — but having access to 1-on-1 coaching calls with a #BigMoneyMovement sales and success coaches (in her case- our amazing coach, Cheryl!) helped her realize how much she was genuinely crushing her goals.

Cheryl helped her sit back, celebrate her wins, take a breath and take it all in for a moment or two. It was less about the numbers and more about learning how to reflect and scale without burning out in the process.

You Need To Know In Your Heart Of Hearts That You Are Worthy

The #BigMoneyMovement is not for everyone.

According to Shawna, it is an environment for radical growth and transformation that can happen at your own pace. Still, you need to be open to constructive criticism, invitation, and guidance on making yourself and your business better.

“If you are not a self-starter, this won’t be it for you,” she said. “There are a lot of dope women in this space, and you may find yourself discouraged by others’ wins if you don’t have those internal loci to let yourself know that I am the bomb, I am here, and I am about to make it happen.”

It might take a couple of weeks or a year; that part doesn’t matter. Each individual’s pace is honored, but you need to know in your heart of hearts that you are worthy.

When securing 5-figure and 6-figure corporate clients feels so far away, Shawna encourages folks to lean into mindset work, visioning, and meditation.

While you can set goals and have a vision, you also need to lean into how it will feel when you hit those milestones.

“As soon as you begin to feel what it might feel like to actualize it, you start to align your soul power and purpose with the goal that you had,” she says. “Bring it forward and imagine: what are you going to feel like at that moment when you get that first six figures? Ask yourself whose lives you will be able to touch and imagine your energy and intention spreading throughout.”

In 2022, Shawna is on pace to create record-breaking revenue for her business where six-figure months have now become the norm.

Moreso, she’s able to exponentially expand the reach of her mission and the impact of her work.

What strikes me more than anything about Shawna is the way she navigates the world- comfortable in her own skin, oozing authenticity and transparency with her larger-than-life personality.

When she’s in the room, you’re going to know it- and you’re going to enjoy a belly full of laughs in the process.

Take it from Shawna- you, too, can do good work, be compensated appropriately for the impact you create, create change…

and do it YOUR way.
